Kim Hi my name is Kim and at the start of this blog I am 51 years old, married to a wonderful man, and step mom to his three great children. I made the decision to take back my life and I wanted to keep a record of the steps toward and hopefully after RNY surgery.

As far back as I can remember I’ve had a weight problem. Both of my parents were heavy and Mom bless her heart tried to provide a balanced meals. However, looking back the way the food was prepared wasn’t the best thing but really who knew any different? The biggest down fall, aside from all the candy, was sitting in front of the TV at 8pm eating vanilla ice-cream and chocolate syrup. To this day that is my favorite snack.

Last year my doctor suggested I look into Bariatric RNY Surgery, at the time I didn’t want to and hoped I would be able to lose the weight. Then on March 4, 2008 my friend Mary asked me to go with her to an information session on bariatric surgery. I agreed to go, but had decided I would not be doing it for me, but going to support her. I don’t know what made me do it, but I signed the register and picked up the packet that was handed out. Stating, that if I ever changed my mind I wouldn’t need to attend another such meeting. I listened to all the speakers and a part of me started thinking maybe this is something I should consider. After the meeting Mary and I went out to eat and completed the true / false test.

A year later, Mary had her surgery, and I decided to at least check it out for myself, all the paper work has been sent in.

The journey has begun…
